Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President Ilham Aliyev in the city of Lachin for comprehensive discussions on the broad spectrum of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations. During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to ensure regional stability and reiterated their firm stances on key international matters.
The talks coincided with Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and took place on the eve of a trilateral summit involving Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkiye, adding symbolic weight to the engagement. Prime Minister Shehbaz extended warm congratulations to President Aliyev on this significant national celebration.

Shehbaz expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its unwavering support during the recent Pakistan-India tensions, acknowledging the solidarity shown by both the Azerbaijani leadership and people. He highlighted how the people of Azerbaijan celebrated Pakistan’s success in Maarka-e-Haq, and noted the consistent mutual support both nations have demonstrated over the years.
According to an official statement, the two leaders reviewed the entire scope of bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in political, economic, defence, and cultural ties. They reaffirmed their commitment to expanding their strategic partnership by investing in areas of mutual interest, with Azerbaijan agreeing to host delegation-level discussions in the near future.

The prime minister remarked that holding the meeting in Lachin—a city symbolizing Azerbaijan’s resilience and renewal—was deeply meaningful for both countries.
The meeting concluded with a joint pledge to strengthen the Pakistan-Azerbaijan relationship further and to collaborate closely on advancing shared goals at both bilateral and regional levels.
The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarrar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
